Steven Hardy, PhD, is the director of Psychology and Patient Care Services, as well as a psychologist in the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. Dr. Hardy is engaged in clinical, research and education activities related to the psychosocial care of children with cancer, sickle cell disease and other hematologic diseases. He holds a faculty appointment as an associate professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Dr. Hardy specializes in the emotional, behavioral and cognitive aspects of children's health, with a particular emphasis on evaluating and treating psychological difficulties among children with cancer or sickle cell disease. Dr. Hardy provides services in both inpatient and outpatient clinic settings and works with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that patients and families receive comprehensive care in the Divisions of Hematology, Oncology, and Blood and Marrow Transplantation.

Dr. Hardy leads a research program focused on enhancing neurocognitive functioning, academic achievement and quality of life for youth with sickle cell disease. He is also involved in research with the Children's Oncology Group aiming to monitor and prevent neurocognitive late effects of treatment. Dr. Hardy is also committed to training, as he supervises undergraduate and post-baccalaureate research students, and clinical psychology graduate student externs, pre-doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows.
