Biografía
Sephora N. Morrison, MD, is the associate chief of Clinical Operations and director of Human Experience and Clinical Integration in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Children’s National Hospital. She also serves as associate professor of Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Dr. Morrison is a board-certified pediatrician and pediatric emergency medicine physician who has dedicated her career to advancing high-quality, equitable and compassionate care for children and families. She earned her medical degree from the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, completed her pediatric residency in New York and pursued fellowship training in pediatric emergency medicine in Chicago. She later obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation from Northwestern University and a Master of Business Administration from the George Washington University, strengthening her expertise in clinical research, systems improvement and healthcare leadership.
At Children’s National, Dr. Morrison has held numerous leadership roles focused on clinical operations, patient safety and experience innovation. She has led transformative initiatives to improve emergency department throughput, reduce inequities in care, enhance communication and support staff wellness. She founded and expanded several signature programs, including the Emergency Medicine Experience Ambassador Program, discharge callback initiatives, patient-facing tracking tools and multidisciplinary human experience training for clinical teams. Her work integrates operational excellence with a deep commitment to dignity, transparency and partnership with families.
Dr. Morrison is a Certified Physician Executive and a Certified Patient Experience Professional. She was named a Fellow in Human Experience by The Beryl Institute in recognition of her leadership in advancing experience-centered care across healthcare systems. Her research and quality improvement efforts have been supported by federal and foundation grants, including work with the Pediatric Pandemic Network and initiatives addressing health inequities in emergency care. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on pediatric emergency medicine operations, patient experience, quality improvement and equity.
A passionate educator and mentor, Dr. Morrison has developed clinical, business and human experience curricula for trainees and faculty and has mentored medical students, residents, fellows and interdisciplinary leaders. Her approach to care centers on clinical excellence, operational innovation and ensuring that every child and family feels heard, respected and supported during some of their most vulnerable moments.
