Manan Desai, MD, was born and raised in western Gujarat, India. He completed his MS, general surgery training in 2006-2009 from B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad and received his cardiac surgery training from India's premier medical institute, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (M.Ch., cardiothoracic and vascular surgery; 2010-2013). He was an attending physician in adult and pediatric cardiac surgery in India between 2013-2017.

Dr. Desai moved to United States in 2017 in order to receive advanced training in congenital cardiac surgery, under the tutelage of one of the pioneers of congenital cardiac surgery, Richard Jonas, MD, (Fellowship in congenital cardiovascular surgery, 2017-2020). Dr. Desai then joined Stanford University and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital as visiting faculty (2020-2022) and worked with Frank Hanley, MD, and Dr. Ma in niche areas like VSD/PA/MAPCAS, William's Syndrome, anomalous aortic origin of coronary arteries, heart transplantation and ventricular assist devices. Dr. Desai became an attending pediatric cardiac surgeon at Children's National Hospital to join the team led by Yves d'Udekem, MD, in May of 2022.
