Christopher Eric Hayes, MD

Christopher Hayes, MD, is a gastroenterologist in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Children’s National Hospital. He is also an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Dr. Hayes practices primarily at the Children’s Specialty Clinic in Fredericksburg on the Mary Washington Hospital campus. He is experienced in identifying and treating children with a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal allergy, and functional gastrointestinal disease.

Dr. Hayes received his medical degree at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, VA. He completed his pediatric residency at Tufts Medical Center/The Floating Hospital for Children in Boston and a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at Brown University/Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, RI. He worked as faculty at Baystate Children’s Hospital in western Massachusetts, where he served as the medical director of the Growth and Nutrition Program. More recently, Dr. Hayes cared for the children of Central Virginia at St. Mary’s for Children in Richmond, VA.

Dr. Hayes has contributed to the field through service and education. He has enhanced the education of pediatric gastroenterologists nationally through invited talks at conferences and webinars. He has served as the Chair of the Clinical Practice committee of the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN). He has contributed to the field by publishing scientific articles as well as training the next generation of physicians and nurse practitioners
