Cara Tenerelli, MSN, CPNP-AC, is a pediatric acute care nurse practitioner specializing in the management of complex and critically ill children in the hospital setting. She works as part of a multidisciplinary consult team within the Advanced Lung Disease Program, partnering closely with physicians, respiratory therapists and subspecialty teams to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care.

Cara began her career as a bedside nurse in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Children’s National Hospital, where she spent five years caring for medically fragile and critically ill children. During this time, she developed strong clinical assessment skills, sound clinical judgment and a deep appreciation for the resilience of patients and families navigating serious illness.

She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University in 2020 and her Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner training in 2025. Her clinical interests include cardiology, advanced lung disease, critical care medicine and family-centered care in high-acuity environments.

Cara is committed to building trusting relationships with patients and families, ensuring they feel informed, supported and empowered throughout their hospital experience. She believes excellent care combines clinical expertise with compassion, communication and collaboration.
