Biografía
Aishwarya Thakur, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician and addiction medicine specialist dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of adolescents and young adults. She serves as an assistant professor of pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Dr. Thakur completed her medical training at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine, followed by pediatric residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and a fellowship in pediatric addiction medicine at Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
Her academic and clinical interests center on prevention and treatment of adolescent substance use, and integration of behavioral health within pediatric and adolescent primary care. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, including contributing to a book chapter in the American Academy of Pediatrics' Pediatric Mental Health Telephone Triage and Advice. She is an active educator and has delivered workshops nationwide on cannabis and nicotine use, improving systems for screening and providing treatment for substances use disorders, and supporting families and caregivers of adolescents with substance use disorders.
Dr. Thakur is committed to improving adolescent health on a global scale. She collaborated with local non-governmental organizations to explore substance use patterns among street-based youth in Mumbai, India, and also how best to incorporate family-based interventions for opioid use disorder treatment for youth in Mizoram, India. She serves as the current American Academy of Pediatrics representative to the International Pediatric Association and contributes to global initiatives on adolescent mental health.
In addition to her academic and clinical work, Dr. Thakur is an advocate for adolescent health. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Society of Addiction Medicine and is involved in local and national advocacy efforts. She co-chairs the Opioid and Substance Use Response workgroup of the DC Hospital Association, advancing institutional strategies of prevention and treatment of substance use disorders.
